“Martinism is a form of mystical and esoteric Christianity concerned with the fall of the first man, his state of material privation from his divine source, and the process of his return, called ‘Reintegration’ or illumination.”
Father Anthony Silvia, a priest of the Apostolic Johannite Church, a Freemason, and a Martinist, delivered this lecture about Martinism on July 1, 2010 at the Western Mysteries Study Group in Arlington, Massachusetts.
Fr. Anthony describes the philosophies and history of Martinism, including Martinez de Pasqually and the Elus Cohens, Louis-Claude de Saint-Martin, Jean-Baptiste Willermoz and the Scottish Rectified Rite, Papus and August Chaboseau. He also addresses the secretive and fragmentary nature of the Martinist lineages.
For anyone interested in esoteric orders, Gnosticism, mystical Christianity, and the history of occultism, this lecture sheds a little more light on one of the major branches of the Western Mystery Tradition.
